  2. Donna...We JUST got water back, but were without it most of the day...this just in from Arlington County...:00 p.m. update

Note to media: The 8:00 p.m. press briefing tonight will be held at the
Arlington County Government Center, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard. Meet by the
flagpole; in case of rain, meet in the lobby. Contact: 703.898.8217.

The water main rupture has been identified; a large main water main (36”
diameter) ruptured on the DC side of the Chain Bridge. This is one of the
multiple water main lines that brings water to Arlington. A large percentage of
Arlington residents lost water service, or experienced low water pressure. The
cause of the rupture is under investigation.

We believe that water will be restored to Arlington customers tonight – water
pressure is already beginning to be restored. We anticipate that water service
will be restored to all customers sometime this evening, thanks to Arlington’s
robust backup systems and support from neighboring jurisdictions and water
    systems.

We should have an update at 8:00 p.m.; please check the Arlington Web site for
updates, and sign up for Arlington Alert, www.arlingtonalert.com.

    Emergency Operations

Within 30 minutes of the rupture, Arlington activated its Emergency Operations
Center to manage the incident. Additional Fire, Police, and Public Health
resources were brought in and Arlington officials reached out to hospitals,
nursing homes and assisted living residences.

    Arlington Public Schools:

At this point, Arlington Public Schools anticipates regular operations tomorrow.
If there are any changes, APS will make an announcement by 6:00 a.m. Monday
    morning.

    Water safety:

For those Arlington residents who completely lost water pressure: when the
water pressure returns, please consume bottled water or boil your drinking
water, just to be extra safe.

For residents who never lost water pressure, or experienced low water pressure:
it is not necessary to boil the water.

    Water conservation:

As we are waiting for full water restoration, please conserve water – do not
    flush, for example.

Thank you for your patience as we work to fully restore water service to
    Arlington.
