HUMP DAY

Of course, we ended up at Cap Shitty tonight after the show. It was Jenny Cartney and Jess Speaker's Anniversary, although he is at Goodspeed prepping for Meet John Doe, so I was Jenny's date tonight. I even cooked her a steak for dinner.
Here we are celebrating her anniversary...

STEVE McWILLIAMS

Hey all, I just want to send some positive thought and prayer Steve McWilliams's way. He is under the knife this morning, getting knee surgery. He actually is probably just about ready to have his first incision as I write this, so...I would just like everyone out there in blog land to send him well wishes if you think about it. He will be recovering at his home, and bought a MAC so he can surf the web and such to cut the boredom.
Sending you love, big brother!
Luv,
SGS

FALLING...

I found these leaves last week, and had to scan them into my computer. They were so gorgeous on the ground...I picked a few up and took them home with me.
I have yet to decorate my house for Halloween. I don't know why, I just have not been inspired much.
Hopefully I will find time this week. And some inspiration.
Well, after tomorrow, our temperatures will start to scale downward...so I guess I am thinking that I'll carve pumpkins on Monday?
Hmmm...We shall see.
I took Buddha to the vet this morning to get his eyes checked, and he got a clean bill of health...nothing to worry about. We both heaved a sigh of relief.
So now, it is off to work I go. I'll chat more later!

Sh*t I Like Right Now-October 06

(PHOTO BY CAROL PRATT...of Ascot Gavotte from My Fair Lady at Signature Theatre...that's me in the middle)
What a long weekend.
Rent the movie is playing on the TV as I type this. The tragedy of it all is that the remote is all the way over on the other side of the room, and I have this laptop on my lap. top. What an awful movie. Ugh.
So, yeah...my weekend.
5 shows of MFL....what an ass kicker! My legs are dead. My knee is really bad by the end of Sunday night's show...but by Tuesday, I am ok.
Sally Murphy came back to the show by Saturday night's performance, and she is feeling much better. It is nice to have her back with us, and I am so glad that her health is better. The shows all went great all weekend.
I got the news on Friday night that contrary to my previous announcement that Wednesday, Buddha's sister would be arriving soon, she would indeed, not be joining our family.
The breeder decided that she just couldn't part with her. I am sad about this, but I understand. So....we will just have to shop around for a good breeder of pugs in the area. I have no specific timeline for this. Maybe in the Spring, maybe next year.
In other news, I am reading The Ruins a second time, just because it is so damn good. If you have not read it, what are you waiting for?
I also got the chance to listen to Grey Gardens, the musical. I will say that I did love it very much. I have only listened once, but after first listen, I can recommend track 21 and 22, "Around the World-Reprise", and "Another Winter in a Summer Town". They broke my heart.
I just watched 2 fascinating documentaries....One is called "Stevie", and is about ...well...rent it, it's hard to describe.

The other is called "Guerilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst". I was too young to remember any of that happening, so I was amazed by it all.
I highly recommend both.
So, there you have it...my picks for the month.
I plan on blogging all evening to catch up a bit on things, since it is my day off.
Thanks to you all for reading every day.
Talk later

SGS

Image of the Week

I took this last week... I love the light through the leaves...

UNDERSTUDY

So, we have had an interesting couple of days at My Fair Lady...
Sally Murphy is ill, and her understudy, Brianne Cobuzzi went on for her, and Kathy Fuller was out too, so her understudy, Meghan MacPhee when on.
They were both flawless.
Channez McQuay also went on as the "Queen of Transylvania"..
Here are the photos...

Then Matt and I went out for a nightcap with Priscilla and Danny...

We start Signature's first regularly scheduled 5 show weekend tomorrow...
Talk soon..

Opening Night

So, Thanks to the Oceana Group, we had this loverly display of chandeliers at opening night for My Fair Lady. It was elegant and tasteful, and just what it should have been.
When I look back at all of the opening nights in this lobby, it makes my heart pang just a little bit. I think that I will get progressively more emotional about leaving the garage as the show comes to an end, but I still have another show there, the week long "Last Garage Hurrah" cabaret, in which several Signature regulars, including Harry A. Winter, Will Gartshore, myself, Donna Migliaccio, Eleasha Gamble, and Tracy Olivera will be singing Signature's "greatest hits" for a week...
I met Haley Mills, Dena Hammerstein, Maureen McGovern, and many others in this lobby after opening night parties.
The candelabra that set a gay man's sweater aflame on a gay night, the squirt gun challenge during Assassins when little Bradley was running around and squirting target pictures of Presidents during Assassins....so many memories.
I remember during "One Red Flower" I made a CD to play during the cast party with songs that bore meaning to the show, but put fart sounds between the songs...so a song would happen, then you would hear a loud fart sound effect. How funny it was to see the donors look around and wonder what the fart noises were.
Soon we will be in a much more glamorous lobby partying the night away...
I look forward to that, but sense the sadness of leaving a lobby so partied in...
I only hope that I can continue to make CD's that will be played on opening nights...if they ever trust me to again...

PLAYING CATCH UP...

I had a nice phone conversation with my friend, Alyson this afternoon as I walked the pooches.
I haven't talked to Alyson in...hmmm...years...I can't even say how long it actually has been. Yikes.
Anyways, it was interesting to catch up and compare notes on the past few years. It was also exciting to see that she has become an author/poet. She has a book of poetry out right now called "Dating and the Rest of Life". Here is the site for it.
She told me on the phone that I am even mentioned in one of the poems, which made me smile. I have to buy this book now, and suggest you all do the same!

Boo...a new blog

My Boo has posted a new blog, initiating a series of chapters known as "My Friends are Your friends". I love this entry, it is too cute...please visit his site and talk to him. He is a pug, you know, and craves attention.

MFL...a sneak peek...

This photo ran in the Washington Post today, in an article discussing the upcoming last show in the garage at Signature. I am in the back on the left, behind Eleasha. Matt is on the far right.
I think this one will be another sell out. The audience is enjoying the show immensely every night. Buy Tickets as soon as you can!

SGS

Kathy Fuller rocks. Just wanted to say it outloud.

STRANGE DREAM...

Last night, I had the weirdest dream that I have ever had...So weird that I woke up, peed, and wrote it down on 3 pages of blank paper...
The cast of characters:
Susan Lynskey
Callie Kimball
Donna Migliaccio
Eric Schaeffer
and me.
THE SETTING:
A cross between the McDowell Colony (where Callie is currently writing plays) and the new Signature Theatre.
How does it start?
I have to pee like mad through the dream....I go down to the "basement" of the new Signature, (although the new Signature has no basement), and it is flooded with about an inch of water...swimming in this water are camel crickets and roaches...Eric says to me..."Yeah, I heard it was raining last night, but I thought, well, whatever..."...I comment on all of the bugs down in the basement floating around, and he says, "Well, they have to go somewhere..."...There seem to be no bathroom facilities, so I look to pee in a puddle alongside a locker-like structure...Susan Lynskey pokes her head around a corner and keeps saying, "Lemme see it!"...she keeps wanting to see my penis...I go upstairs, and I am on a mountain range (Seemingly a McDowell colony-esque landscape), and there is my tent from my backyard, with my table set with china. The clouds are low hanging and seemingly made of blue and purple paint...
Donna Mig is up to my left grilling out, and Eric is going around picking up trash with a trash bag.
All of the sudden I have to pee again, and Susan is asking me if she can "see it".
I decline again, and see funnels of purple and blue color dripping from these fake looking clouds...these funnels are tornadoes...
All of a sudden, a huge tornado makes a distant swipe at the weird landscape...it sounds like a million horses neighing...
Eric yells, "Tor-Nad-eee!", and giggles as he goes inside...
The canopy tilts sideways, and all of the china breaks...I hold onto a leg of the tent...
I turn to Donna and say, "Do you see this tornado?"... but cannot move towards her. or safety...The wind is sucking me back.
She yells at me to come inside, but I cannot move...Suddenly the canopy flies out into the sky about 500 feet, then reverses directions, and comes right for me. Callie is writing poetry, but not flinching on the side of the hill, and yells, "Lie down!", so does Donna..
I do, as the tent crashes behind me...I stand up and pee...Susan Lynskey pops up and asks if she can see it.
Eric comes out and says..."Glad you are alive, but your tent destroyed the new theatre!"
Then I woke up, and GOD, did I have to pee...
Then, I wrote these 3 pages of dream down...
any dream interpreters out there?
What does this mean?

JACKASS NUMBER TWO

So, due to tech and what not, I did not get to see my previous "Must See of the Weekend" until today. That's ok, though, because millions of others did, making it the number one movie in America this past weekend!
So funny considering that the whole film is nothing more than straight men running around, inflicting pain on each other, laughing about it, vomiting, running around naked or near, and being about as sexually questionable with each other as it gets. Yet they are straight men.
Hmmm...and why do I love these films? Hmmm...

Johnny Knoxville

Who one might call the head "Jackass". Already an iconic figure in his aviator sun glasses and dangly cigarette.

Bam Margera
Who looks much more like a man in this second film, and less like a long haired boy. His terrorism of his poor parents continues in the sequel, and though not as funny as when his mother found an alligator in her kitchen, still made me laugh...

Ryan Dunn
Who sports a shaggier look this film, and who seems to step up into action more in this film.

and Chris Pontius...
AKA Partyboy. Who is not only funny and cute, but also apparently heads a rock band, who recorded a song for the "Number Two" soundtrack called "Karazye". Below is the video...
WARNING-VIDEO BELOW REFLECTS MOMENTS OF BAD TASTE, VIOLENCE, AND BLURRED NUDITY...VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED...
(Which means that most of the people who read this blog will push play below, no doubt)

Uncle Fred, Matt, and I went to a matinee this afternoon, and all had a great time. While disgusting at times, and pugilistic most others, it still appealed in the way that cartoons do. In fact, Knoxville and his crew are rather like living cartoons...except dirtier.
And wow. Anytime I tell people that "Jackass" is one of the gayest things I have ever seen, and they look at me strange...they won't after this movie. Especially...
SPOILER ALERT-SPOILER ALERT-SPOILER ALERT
When the whole cast fronts a huge production number with chorus girls and boys, dancing and singing a very well known Jerry Herman song..."The Best of Times is Now".
And then the set falls on Knoxville, and Rip Taylor comes out and throws confetti.
Oh, and John Waters makes a cameo in the film. He makes "Wee Man" disappear.
If you have any kind of a blue sense of humor, don't mind watching guys get the shit knocked out of them, and don't gross out easily, go and see this film.
Wow, with that many stipulations, you would wonder "who would go to see it?"
But obviously, people did. Making Knoxville's gang of Jackasses appear to have the last laugh of all.

HELL FREEZES OVER!!!

Not really, but damn close.
So we had our "invite dress" to MFL tonight, and afterwards, we were all going to go to Cap City. They were unexpectedly closed due to computer failures?!
So, plan B was Guapo's...DRAT!!! Same issue there...
So...we were forced to pay a visit to Bungalow Billiards.
I hate this place.
It is WAY too loud. You have to yell out any conversation that you have, and the clientele is kind of trashy.
I was there once where a man was SO drunk that he threw up several feet from our table (right after our food had just arrived), and then laughed, wiped off with a few napkins, and was served another beer. Waiters or staff seemed to be unaware of the episode, as they walked right through it, noticing nothing...some with trays of food in their hands...I couldn't make this shit up. Needless to say, I lost my appetite.
Tonight, it was weird, because some of the Cap City staff were actually THERE as well...some kind of strange, beer induced deja vu.
Their food and beer are TOO pricey, and the service is always shit.
The "youth" is always out in abundance there. When I say youth, I mean mop headed, shaggy boys with baggy pants and loud mouths, and loose women who all seem to have peroxide hair, push up bras and bad teeth. Looks like Baltimore in there.
Ugh.
Gives me the heebie-jeebies. I always feel dirty when I leave there.
Each time we happen to have to go there for one reason or another, I pray it is the last time.
Hope my prayer holds true this time.
SGS, over and outty.
