Moustached Update.

Hey all! Hope everyone is staying cool in this ridiculous 100+ degree heat! I am in my break between summer camp in the morning, and Super Claudio Bros. Rehearsal in the evening! (This photo is a candid from rehearsal the other day, with Lauren Williams and myself showing off our moustachios). The show is soooooo good, and I really hope to see you there. Details on the show are posted on one of the posts below, so check it out!
In unrelated news, I turned 32 yesterday. I celebrated by teaching camp, and rehearsing. lol.
Super Claudio opens this Saturday at Studio Theatre, so come out and see us!
I will update again very soon! xoxoxoxosgs

Monday, March 1st Recap...Matt Conner Q&A / Jordi Parry Birthday

This past Monday, Matt spoke at the Shirlington Library of his up and coming works. It was a funny and interesting hour long Q&A session with Marcia Gardener that seemed to fly by. Matt has always been a charismatic public speaker.
Afterwards, we went out to have a birthday dessert with Jordi Parry, one of our Gavroches from Les Miz, accompanied by his parents, Robina and Paul. They had all come to the Q&A on the request of Jordi; it was one of the things that he wanted to do on his birthday. We went to Busboys and Poets and I had the cheesecake (heaven). We all had a great time and I am glad that we could help celebrate Jordi's birthday with him!

Happy Birthday again, little Mister!

30/08

Well....it happened. I got older. Despite my best intentions, I aged. A whole 30 years. :)
My birthday was this past Saturday, July 5th. And as family and friends gathered around, the stress and anxiety that I felt about turning this age melted away. Much like I knew it would. A few beers didn't hurt, either.
I thank you all for your well wishes and will slowly and when able (I'm still posting from work since the computer is still out of order) post pictures of the 4th of July, my birthday festivities, and more sneak peaks of Insomnieoke.
Till then (which may indeed be 5 minutes from now),

These are my friends...

A sneak peek at the supporting cast of Insomnieoke...

Hey everyone, since my computer is still down and out, Today will unfortunately be the last day that I am able to post anything on here till next week.
So until then, I guess this is so long.
Next week I will have coverage of our 4th of July, my 30th birthday (Saturday), and many more sneak peeks into the wonderful world of Insomnieoke.
Till then,

tick,tick,tick...

Well, here it is Friday, and I am blogging from work during lunch. Still no computer at home. (Something about I need a new router?). So it is this tedious work blogging holding pattern. I have a few things to post today, so I will throw them up as I can the rest of the day.
What's new?
I've been working on my latest cabaret, Insomnieoke non stop. Also working almost non stop at day jobs. Tomorrow it will be exactly one week until my 30th birthday. *tick, tick, tick, tick*
And I just found out that due to scheduling problems, I will spend a majority of that day WORKING at TicketPlace.
I was so bummed.
I just wanted to spend the day doing fun things that I love doing, and now I will be selling tickets to Shear Madness to grumpy tourists. Not my idea of a fantastic 30th. Oh well. It is what it is.
I am going to go see Irma Vep tonight at Arena. I am excited to see Fred and Brad, and can't wait!
I will be posting a few more things shortly, but that's about it for now.
Talk soon,
SGS

Happy Birthday to...

Joan Crawford (actually, I missed it, it was yesterday. But I didn't really have time to post about it yesterday. Yesterday I watched "Harriet Craig" and today I am watching "Johnny Guitar" in her honor. If I didn't have the Signature Open House today, I would spend all day scrubbing my house clean in her honor, but alas, no time for that.
Happy Birthday, Joan!

The Party...

Well, what would any kind of birthday party for me be without enough Cici's deep dish pepperoni and garlic cheese bread to kill a horse? The dining room table was stacked with it, and I think I just finished the last of the pizza on Friday night. Amazing.

Sean brought his kid over (Albert) so Buddha and he could run around and play during the party...

As it frequently goes with your own birthday parties, I don't really have many pictures. Just these few....
Robin showing us "newborn baby from the hospital"...

Robin and Tracy...

Donna and Fred...

It was a nice small gathering for an hour or so, then more people came and I forgot to take more pictures...I think this one was my last one that I took...

You can kind of see that Eleasha and Kara-Tameika arrived. There in the background you can see Faisil talking to Stephanie Waters...anyways...we had a great time, and I am so glad that I got to see all of my wonderful, generous and amazing friends.

It was a long night for all concerned, including the pups, who from the look of this picture had hit the booze a little too hard that evening....:)
More on Birthday week later on...

Birthday Week Crafts...

In preparation for my birthday party, which was a week ago, I of course wanted to make the house look extra festive. While walking a dog in Arlington about 2 weeks ago, I spotted a large discarded painting on the curb. Looking at it, it was no wonder why it was discarded. It was a farm scene in the fall, cheekily painted.

I picked it up and put it in my car, having something in mind for this gigantic frame. I stopped by Target and bought a long and thin poster of James Dean, then went home to prep the frame. I taped off the appropriate ares and painted the frame green apple, then the matte a baby blue. I mounted the poster and sealed it.

I then moved it to my entertainment center, and put four votive holders under each picture. Matty and I can never find anything large enough to dwell on top of the entertainment center and be a sort of focal point, and I think I have succeeded with this curb transformation.

Also, knowing that I did not have enough room in the fridge for food and beer, etc, I dusted off my old college refrigerator from the storage closet and found a way to make it look a little more festive. I wallpapered it with my old Garbage Pail Kids cards. It took on a fun, if not gaudy retro 80's look that I find fun. I moved it outside for the festivities.

I then turned my eye to my bathroom and wanted to tart it up a bit. Taking a point of view of the painting that rest on the back of the toilet, which is of a playing card Joker, I took a deck of cards and pulled the appropriate ones and attached them to the tiles with putty. Sean came up from the bathroom later that evening laughing, saying that I was brilliant. (He got the joke; the cards on the tiles worked out to a royal flush.)

I added a few other subtle touches....a nice down spot on the Marilyn Monroe picture in the living room that kind of makes it look like she is stepping into the light of a street lamp...

I added all red lights to the hanging paper lanterns in the living room...

Also, Matty got me a lovely bunch of flowers for the dining room table...

I also picked and arranged these myself...

Now that I had tarted my house up sufficiently, the party was ready to begin...

speaking of birthdays...

...mine is exactly ONE MONTH away! I'll be turning the big 29! If you want ideas on what to get me on the cheap, here is a great source of ideas...MY AMAZON WISHLIST!!
I have requested mostly old movies on VHS so that I can watch them this summer in my ample down time in the back yard. The thing that is great about this is that they are all dirt cheap (yes-you could buy me a gift for 1 cent on my wish list (many of the videos cost less than a dollar). The downside is that shipping usually takes a few weeks, so the time to order is now. ( If you like me well enough to send me trashy videos for my birthday...if you are just a random lurker, than you can ignore this desperate and cheeky plea for gifts ).
You see, this is also research for a book that I am working on about trash cinema that I hope to work on this summer.
So...complete this white trash boy's fantasies- send me more VHS tapes of bad movies that I can watch out in the backyard!

Luv, SGS
