How random is this? Eartha Kitt was at our Saturday Matinee! Yes, THE Eartha Kitt! She is friends with Dan Cooney's girlfriend, and they all came down to see Dan in the show! I actually shook hands with Catwoman! (Ok...as a geek, and TOTAL Batman TV show fan, it blew my mind). How cool is that?
Gosh, she must be in her 80's. She made a comeback in the mid-1970's playing the gay cabarets that had bloomed in several cities on the two coasts. There was one in DC called "Way OFFFF Broadway." I saw her there and a couple of times in the late 70's in a gay cabaret in San Francisco. She has quite a stage presence. I ran into her once in a gift shop on Castro Street in the late 70's and was suprised to see how wrinkled her face was. She was very friendly and flirted. Much later, I saw her a few times and the wrinkles were gone. The magic of plastic surgery.
She was a great performer in her day. She gave Lady Bird hell in the White House in the 60's over the Vietnam war and that always made her special to me.
Anon#2 Very interesting...thank you for adding that. Yeah, I love the White House story too! Thanks for the comment... Anthony...yeah, it's strange, but way cool.hear from you! Nice to
From anon 1: She paid dearly for that "discussion" at the White House. And it is even questionable that she reduced Lady Bird to uncontrollable weeping (Good Lord she was married to Lyndon!). It ended with government operatives labeling her a "nymphomaniac" among other things. Show biz folks were afraid to hire her for fear of retaliation by the government. She eventially left this country spent at least 10 years overseas (or something like that). She is indeed a part of American history.
She celebrated her 80th this January.
I remember running into her as we were both walking down the street. She was on her way into National Theatre where she was in "The Wiz." I think this was the show 'cause I know I went to see her, and that was a long, LONG time ago.
From the looks of that picture of her above posing with all those other people she looks GREAT!! I kinda wondered what became of her.
