Huck Finn's Story

(Photo of Jonathan Watkins, Matthew McGloin, and Donovan Hagins)
I went with Amy McWilliams last night to see Huck Finn's Story at Imagination Stage.
Her husband, and my friend, Steve McWilliams in the show. He also served as the Musical Director, and put all the music together for the piece as well.
It was a charming adaptation of the well known story...it was like a traveling jug-band that sets down long enough to tell a story, and then move on. Almost all of the actors in the piece, 6 total, play some sort of jug-bandish instrument when not directly involved in the story telling...
The set is very simple and uses mainly a few crates, some ratty fabric, and a raft, of course.
The music totally makes the piece fly though. Steve McWilliams has chosen very smart song choices, including "I'll Fly Away", "Amazing Grace", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", to name a few.
The cast all give strong performances...Michael John Casey and Jonathan Watkins provide much of the comic relief, and have a good time doing it, too.
I was so proud of my friend Steve, and his fine work on this outstanding show.
It is definitely worth seeing...
